Women Rising. Building Resilient Communities.
A women-led national NGO working in the hardest-to-reach parts of South Sudan — delivering life-saving humanitarian assistance and building long-term resilience, with women, girls and persons with disabilities at the centre of every decision.
Canoes and fishing nets distributed to women in Rubkona County, Unity State, with support from UNDP.
Five pillars, one mandate
AWA-AFRICA holds a dual mandate: respond to emergencies now, and build the systems that make the next emergency survivable.
GBV Case Management, Risk Mitigation and SRHR
Survivor-centred case management, GBV risk mitigation, psychosocial support, legal referrals and safe spaces in displacement settings — alongside maternal health and reproductive rights.
Women’s Empowerment and Economic Resilience
Village Savings and Loan Associations, vocational training, microgrants and support for women-led enterprise.
Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion
Grassroots peace dialogues, trauma healing and reconciliation, and youth leadership in local peace processes.
Education in Emergencies and Development
Accelerated learning for out-of-school children, school rehabilitation, teacher training and advocacy against early marriage.
Climate Action and Disaster Risk Reduction
Climate-smart agriculture, reforestation, early warning systems and clean energy for households.
Rights-based. Community-led.
Every intervention is designed with the communities it serves — prioritising the voices and leadership of women, girls and marginalised groups.
Community violence reduction along the White Nile and Sobat
In Renk County, Upper Nile State, AWA-AFRICA brought together community elders, faith leaders, women’s representatives, youth and people with disabilities to advance socio-economic cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

Start-up kits for survivors in Rubkona
In Rubkona County, Unity State, AWA-AFRICA provided livelihood start-up kits — canoes and fishing nets — to women affected by conflict-related sexual violence, so that recovery is backed by an income a household can hold on to.
Economic independence is treated here as part of protection, not separate from it. A woman who can feed her family and earn from her own work is measurably less exposed to the pressures that put her at risk in the first place.
